What is CBT?

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy for the treatment of mental health disorders. CBT is a shorter-term therapy consisting of cognitive and behavioural techniques which address cognitive, behavioural, physiological, emotional and environmental factors which are all reciprocally interlinked. It is practiced worldwide and consists of three generations of different forms of CBT, such as Cognitive Therapy, REBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, DBT, Schema Therapy, etc. Training standards are overseen by international CBT organizations such as the WCCBT https://wccbt.org.

Who is it for?

  • Mental health professionals such as psychiatrists, psychologists, counsellors, clinical social workers and psychiatric nurses who have had training in psychopathology and counselling skills and Psychiatry/Psychology university students
  • Those interested in establishing foundations in Beckian Cognitive Therapy/CBT and the treatment of depression and anxiety from a CBT perspective, as well as an introduction to ACT, DBT and Schema Therapy
  • Those interested in collecting training hours towards certification

What To Expect?

  • 15 CPD accredited online training hours which could be done at your own pace and time zone. It is recommended that the course be spread over several weeks in view of practice and implementation

Shane Pienaar – Du Bruyn

D.Phil University of Pretoria, South Africa

Shane Pienaar-Du Bruyn is a Clinical Psychologist for the past 30 years. She is in private practice in a psychiatric hospital environment, and provides CBT training locally and internationally.
Her CBT training includes that from the Cleveland Centre for Cognitive Therapy, and international conferences and workshops (www.cbt-therapist.co.za). She attended the Beck Institute’s Supervision and Training program in Philadelphia in 2014 and is an accredited Trainer/Consultant with the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy, lead under the supervision of Prof Keith Dobson, University of Calgary, Canada.
She is the Director of the CBT Association of South Africa www.cbtasa.co.za
